Same Backyard, Staged

Drag the slider. The house, the covered porch and its paving, the stepping-stone path, the fence and the trees are where they were — the deck, chairs, planters, birch and fire bowl are the Scandinavian Minimalist style.

The same backyard in the Scandinavian Minimalist style: a pale wood deck with white chairs, tables and a bench, concrete planters with grasses, a birch tree, ferns in gravel borders and a black fire bowl on white pebbles; the house, covered porch, paving, stepping-stone path, fence and trees are where they were.
A backyard behind a two-storey house: a covered porch with stone paving, a curved stepping-stone path across a wide lawn, a wooden fence and tall trees behind it.

Our test backyard is an AI-generated image, not a listing; the render is our own and not retouched. The same yard in seven more styles is in our before and after examples by room.

On a Real Listing Photo

The back of a real house, restyled as a Japanese Zen garden. An outdoor style redesigns the ground too: the lawn became raked gravel, moss, a koi pond and stepping stones, while the house, its covered terrace, the furniture and the barbecue were kept.

The same backyard restyled as a Japanese Zen garden: raked white gravel in place of the lawn, moss islands with weathered rocks, stepping stones, a koi pond with a bamboo fountain, a stone lantern and a red maple; the house, covered terrace, furniture and barbecue are where they were.

What an Outdoor Style Changes

Each outdoor style is a design for the whole yard, not just a set of chairs.

Furniture and decor

A dining or lounge set, loungers, an outdoor rug, cushions, lanterns and planters, all in the style you pick.

Planting and the lawn

Beds, borders, ornamental grasses and trees in pots. In some styles the lawn turns into gravel, moss or a meadow.

Paving and features

Pavers, stepping stones, a fire pit, an arbor, string lights or a small water feature, where the style calls for them.

And What It Is Told to Keep

Every render is compared with your photo for these before you see it.

  • The house — its windows, doors and roofline
  • The fence line and the property boundary
  • Mature trees
  • The ground level — no new pool, no new slope
  • The camera viewpoint

If the check rejects a render, you get the best attempt marked as a draft. The last look is yours: put the render beside the original before it goes anywhere public.

Listing Photo or Garden Preview

For a listing

Keep only frames where nothing but movable furniture is new. The lawn, beds, paving and trees must stay as photographed; label the image as virtually staged and keep the original beside it. California's CRMLS does not permit AI-generated landscaping in the MLS.

For planning

A redesigned yard — new beds, gravel, a fire pit, an arbor — is a preview: for deciding what to do with a garden, briefing a landscaper, or a concept labelled as one. It is never the current state of the property.

What to add to a patio, deck or balcony, and what to leave, is in our outdoor virtual staging guide; the rule of each MLS is in virtual staging rules by state and province.

Outdoor Staging Questions

Which plans include outdoor virtual staging?

Pro and Agency. Pro is $39 a month billed yearly ($46 month to month) for 250 renders a month; Agency is $89 a month billed yearly for 1,000. The 3 free renders and the one-time Room Pack (20 renders for $9) cover the interior styles only — if you upload a yard on those, you are told so before a render is spent.

What does an outdoor style change in my yard?

Each outdoor style is a design for the whole yard: furniture and decor, planting, and often the ground itself — new paving, gravel or beds where the lawn was. The engine is told to keep the house, the fence line, the property boundary, mature trees, the ground level and the camera angle, and every render is compared with your photo for exactly those before you see it. If the check rejects a render, you still see the best attempt, clearly marked as a draft.

Can I put an outdoor render in an MLS listing?

Only a frame where nothing but movable furniture is new — the lawn, beds, paving and trees must stay as photographed — labelled as virtually staged, with the original kept beside it. A new garden, paving or fire pit is landscaping, and California's CRMLS does not permit AI-generated landscaping in the MLS. Use those renders as a design preview for planning, or as a concept clearly labelled as one.

Which outdoor spaces work best?

Backyards, patios, decks, terraces and gardens — any space where furniture can stand on ground that is already there. Take the photo in daylight from the back door or a corner of the yard, camera level at chest height, the 1x lens rather than the ultra-wide, with hoses, bins and toys cleared.

Can I try it before I pay?

On a room, yes: the 3 free renders work on every interior style, so you can judge how a render holds a real photo — a room of the same listing, say — before you upgrade. Outdoor styles need Pro or Agency.

How long does an outdoor render take?

15–60 seconds, depending on how much detail the space has. Most people try two or three styles on the same yard and keep one; each style is one render from the monthly allowance of the Pro or Agency plan.
